We welcome everyone! JJL is for families looking for a personalized, meaningful, and inclusive approach to Jewish education. Whether your family is deeply connected to Jewish life, just beginning to explore that connection, or somewhere in between, JJL meets each family where they are.
-
Not at all! JJL provides families with an accessible approach to Jewish learning outside of the traditional synagogue model. Many JJL families are unaffiliated, interfaith, or simply looking for an experience that better fits their family’s needs.
-
So much more than Hebrew! Students explore Jewish traditions, holidays, Torah, history, Israel, prayer, and values while building their Hebrew reading skills.
Along the way, they discover how Judaism connects to their own lives, building confidence, curiosity, joy, and pride.
The goal is simple: Learn 💛 Connect 💛 Grow
-
Both! JJL offers virtual Hebrew School as well as in-person learning opportunities for families in the Rockland/Orange County, New York area and parts of northern New Jersey. Families across the U.S. can join virtually.
Learning experiences are designed to be interactive, engaging, and community-centered in either setting.
-
Not at all! Every student comes to JJL with their own experiences and connection to Judaism. Wherever your child is starting from, B-Mitzvah preparation is personalized to help them build confidence, grow, and work toward their individual goals.
-
Ideally, about a year before the anticipated ceremony date. This allows plenty of time for learning and preparation to unfold at a comfortable pace. Have less time? Don’t worry! 💛
Every child’s journey is different, and we can explore what works best for your child and your timeline.
-
She certainly can! JJL offers personalized B-Mitzvah preparation and customized ceremony officiation. Together, we’ll create a ceremony that celebrates your child’s individual strengths, incorporates Jewish and family values, and remains rooted in Torah and tradition.
The result is a meaningful, memorable B-Mitzvah experience for your child, your family, and everyone in attendance. 💛
-
Wherever feels meaningful to your family! JJL ceremonies can take place in event venues, restaurants, community spaces, homes, outdoor settings, and other special locations. Your ceremony does not need to take place in a synagogue to be authentically Jewish and rooted in tradition.
-
Yes-of course! With nearly 20 years of experience as a certified literacy and special education teacher, Jen personalizes instruction to meet each student where they are. The goal is never for every child to learn in exactly the same way—it’s to help each child feel successful, confident, and proud of what they accomplish.
-
Absolutely! Interfaith families are warmly welcomed at JJL. 💛
Learning and B-Mitzvah experiences can be personalized to honor your family’s unique traditions while helping your child build a strong connection to Judaism. If desired, there are meaningful ways to include family members of different faith backgrounds in a b-mitzvah ceremony, creating opportunities for everyone to feel connected to and included in this important family milestone.
